  • Los Angeles Rams running back Cam Akers left Sunday's NFC Championship Game vs. the San Francisco 49ers with a shoulder injury.

He hit the locker room during the late stages of the first quarter and was deemed questionable.

Akers was efficient prior to the injury, totaling 31 yards on six carries and another reception. His rushing prop total was over/under 60.5 yards.

Shortly after he exited, the Rams connected on a touchdown pass to take the first lead of the game, 7-0.

Akers wasn't the only Rams skill player to leave on Sunday.

Tight end Tyler Higbee needed help getting off the field in the first quarter and was deemed questionable to return. He caught two passes for 18 yards prior to leaving.

Akers has been one of the more underrated stories this season.

A second-year running back out of Florida State, Akers was supposed to shoulder a huge load entering the season 鈥?only to sustain an Achilles injury before the campaign.

He wound up returning for the regular-season finale against the 49ers and has played in the team's last four games overall.

The Rams' coaching staff gave Akers plenty of opportunities to start the postseason, as he took 41 carries across the Wild Card Round and Divisional Round.

The NFC Championship marked the third meeting of the season between the Rams and Niners.

Whoever wins Sunday's matchup will take on the Cincinnati Bengals 鈥?who beat the Chiefs in overtime earlier 鈥?in the Super Bowl.
